Summary
For almost 20 years, Pegasus has provided specialist hazardous and chemical waste management to a major European healthcare and grooming R&D campus, a complex network of high-specification laboratories, testing areas and research environments behind some of the world’s best-known consumer brands. A long partnership that shows how we support demanding, innovation-driven operations without ever compromising on compliance.
The challenge
An active R&D campus produces a diverse and unpredictable range of laboratory and chemical wastes, among them solvents, acids and alkalis, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), laboratory consumables and non-infectious clinical wastes. Our client needed a partner who could identify, classify and remove all of it safely and lawfully, week in, week out, while adapting as their operations evolved.
What we do
Our qualified Operations Chemists attend on a regular on-site rota, typically weekly, to identify, inventory, classify and safely package every stream. Crucially, all identification, listing and classification is done by our own trained personnel, not subcontracted. That direct control is what delivers consistency, quality assurance and real operational oversight.
Over the contract we have continually refined the service. When a client-appointed third party once failed to complete a scheduled collection, we responded immediately, kept the client informed and implemented a short-term fix, then strengthened long-term resilience by opening additional approved treatment and disposal routes through our whole-market access, reducing dependency on any single provider.
The results
A standout improvement was replacing frequent weekly collections by multiple small vehicles with a consolidated quarterly collection model, safely storing appropriate streams on site between collections. The result was significantly fewer transport movements and lower carbon emissions, with no compromise on segregation, storage or compliance. Larger consolidated loads move on ADR-compliant HGVs via an approved specialist transport partner, overseen directly by Pegasus personnel.
